The course started on Friday, December 16, 2017 as scheduled. All delegates were registered and breakfast was served. This was followed by a small inauguration ceremony and lightening of the lamp was carried out by the dignitaries, Dr. Sanjay Dhar (Hon. Secretary, BOS), Dr. Amit Ajgaonkar (Vice-President, BOS), Dr. Sudhir Sharan (EC Member, BOS) Dr. Sandeep Biraris (Convener, BOS Basic Arthroscopy Course 2017), Dr. Roshan Wade and Dr. Pradip Nemade (Co-Conveners, BOS Basic Arthroscopy Course 2017), Mumbai Port Trust Hospital, CMO, Dr. A. Annadurai, Chief Anaesthetist Dr. Suvarna Tamaskar and Senior Arthroscopy surgeon and faculty Dr. Abhay Narvekar.
Dr. Dhar, Dr. Ajgaonkar and Dr. Sharan conveyed their best wishes for this course on behalf of BOS and congratulated Dr. Sandeep Biraris and Dr. A. Annadurai (CMO) for the arrangements of the course at the Mumbai Port Trust Hospital. Dr. Sandeep Biraris, Dr. Roshan Wade and Dr. Pradip Nemade welcomed all the delegates, faculties and dignitaries for the course. In the pre-lunch session Dr. Abhay Narvekar performed a live surgery of ACL reconstruction and Dr. Anant Joshi performed meniscal root repair live surgery. Everyone appreciated the surgeries. In between surgeries, various didactic lectures by eminent faculties and also hands-on optics and triangulation workshops were conducted. Following lunch, Dr. Roshan Wade performed arthroscopic rotator cuff repair live surgery. After that lectures, video techniques on common knee and shoulder pathologies were presented by the faculties. Following tea break, various workshops like dry bone model and knot tying workshop were conducted with one-to-one interaction between delegates and faculties. At 7:20 pm live webinar was presented by Dr. Jimmy Chow (Headley Orthopaedic Institute, Phoenix, USA) about biomechanics of knee, which lasted for about 40 minutes. Overall satisfaction of the delegates was very good. The day ended at 8:00 pm.
On Saturday, December 17, 2017, hands-on cadaveric workshop was conducted in the Department of Anatomy, Seth G. S. Medical College & Hospital, Parel. Breakfast was served in the morning. There were total 10 cadaveric arthroscopy stations (10 knees and 10 shoulders) with dedicated full time 2-3 faculty members for each station. Delegates were divided into two equal batches of shoulder and knee and cadavers were allotted. Delegates were allowed 3 hours on cadavers and then batches were shifted from knee to shoulder and vice-a-versa. During shifting break various basic talks were conducted by faculties and delegate’s queries were answered and lunch was served. After shifting of batches, delegates were allowed to do hand-on training for another 3 hours with interaction with the faculties. Dr. Roshan Wade and Dr. Pradip Nemade did all the arrangements for cadaveric workshop at K. E. M. Hospital. Delegates and faculties appreciated the efforts taken by the organisers. Not to forget that residents of Mumbai Port Trust Hospital and K. E. M. Hospital who worked voluntarily, Anesthetists and OT staff at M. B. P. T. Hospital and Anatomy Department staff of K. E. M. and industry support for the logistics who worked endlessly to give their helping hand for this course. Feedback forms were collected and certificate distribution was done. The course was declared officially over at 4:00 pm.
