The BOS Cerebral Palsy and Gait Course was held between December 13 & 17, 2017 at various institutes known for Paediatric Orthopedics.
Total delegates registered were 13 (11 National and 2 from Bangladesh).
Total CME Credit Hours obtained: 4
All delegates were asked to share their experience about CP in their practice and what were their expectations with this course, through Google Docx form and accordingly the course topics and surgeries were planned out.
Day 1: Jupiter Hospital | Faculty: Dr. Taral Nagda, Dr. Chasanal Rathod, Dr. Jaideep Dhamele, Manasi Raut (Biomechanist), Prasanna Naik, Chaitrali Kale and Priyanka Vikhe (physiotherapists)
It was a long day which started at 8.00 am with basics of Cerebral Palsy, Examination of CP child, Group case discussion and Basics of Injection botulinum toxin and its use.
Post lunch, we had demonstration of Cases in the OT for Injection botulinum toxin. Total 3 cases of Cerebral palsy which were discussed in the pre-lunch session and examined by delegates, were given botox injections by various techniques.
5.00 pm – 9.00 pm: The delegates visited the 3D gait lab at Jupiter Hospital, and had interactive sessions about Normal gait cycle, 2D gait analysis and Gait patterns and how 3D gait analysis can improve management in CP.
Day 2: Surya Hospital | Faculty: Dr. Atul Bhaskar and Dr. Chasanal Rathod
The day started at 9.00 am with evaluation of CP child and the delegates focusing on decision making. The delegates scrubbed in for some cases and demonstration was done for Hamstring lengthening and transfer, Equinus correction, Calcaneal lengthening osteotomy for Planovalgoid feet. We had a great day with lots of interaction and participation.
Day 3: B. J. Wadia Hospital for Children | Faculty: Dr. Rujuta Mehta, Dr. Alaric Aroojis, Dr. Sandip Vaidya &
Dr. Mandar Agashe
The day began at around 8:30 am with interactive session and case discussions followed by Live demonstration of Cases: Botulinum injection in lower limbs, Single event multilevel surgery, Upper extremity: tendon transfer, crouch correction: Femoral extension osteotomy and Patellar tendon advancement. The day concluded with techniques video and discussion.
Day 4: Jupiter Hospital | Faculty: Dr. Taral Nagda, Dr. Chasanal Rathod, Dr. Jaideep Dhamele & Dr. Sachin Kulkarni We started the day at 7.00 am with an interactive breakfast session, followed by case discussion and subsequently demonstration of cases in the OT: Neuromuscular hip dislocation: Medial release, capsulotomy and Varus derotation osteotomy, Upper extremity: fractional lengthening and tendon transfers, Crouch correction: Femoral extension osteotomy, Supramalleolar tibial derotation osteotomy. Some edited videos and surgical steps of previously recorded surgeries were discussed.
Day 5: S. R. C. C. Children’s Hospital – “CME on Lever arm disorders in CP”
This CME was open to everyone, a total 64 delegates were present at the auditorium and nearly 463 people were
participating with the live webcast.
It was very well attended from all over the country and delegates from nearby Asian countries.
The overall feedback for the course from delegates was:

Suggestions: To reduce the travel time of delegates – preferably 1-2 hospitals should be the venue.
