Course Highlights The course is about learning the basic concepts for the understanding and treatment of deformities. It is not about using a fixator or a particular implant for the correction of deformities. Terms and concepts such as mechanical axis vs anatomic axis, CORA, LDFA, MPTA etc. will become clear after this course. You should be able to use the knowledge gained to better understand both the correction of deformities and the prevention of deformities in your treatment of trauma. There will be only a couple of basic lectures, and two days of interactive planning workshops.
Course Objectives At the end of the course, the delegate should be able to:

  • Describe the axis and angles in normal lower limb
  • Plan a simple diaphysial deformity
  • Plan a simple metaphyseal deformity
  • Plan a multiapical and disadvantages of various implants in a given case
  • Create a surgical tactic to carry out the plan
  • This will be achieved by means of:
    • Paper planning workshops
    • Interactive planning sessions (small groups) on actual patient x-rays
