Course Highlights   The course is designed for orthopaedicians and radiologists involved in the diagnosis of musculoskeletal (MSK) disorders. It provides a balanced overview of traditional to the newest; the state of art MSK imaging modalities and techniques. The clinical application of various imaging modalities for common orthopaedic conditions of the lumbar spine will be emphasized. The session opens with guidance to extract maximum information from a plain radiograph of lumbar spine in health and disease. This is followed by a presentation analysis of MRI films of a normal lumbar spine. Entire mankind suffers back pain and lumbar disc disease is a common malady; however, facet joints also contribute to the malady. A complete clinical description of such conditions and their MRI analysis will be very useful for the audience. Imaging of lumbar spine after any surgery is a challenge to understand; a presentation on topic by an orthopaedic surgeon will be helpful for both the specialties. Imaging modalities and what to make out of them in perplexing areas like canal stenosis, brachial plexus imaging and failed back situation will be discussed.
Course Objectives Increase the level of understanding of mutual needs between orthopaedicians and radiologists.
