Course Highlights

The course is aimed at budding orthopaedic surgeons, within three years before and after the final exams.

The course is based on didacticals and pre-recorded videos, describes the essential biomechanics and good methods of handling the bone screw, bone plate, nail, wire & cable, external fixators, hip fixation implants and lays sound scientific foundation for fracture fixation operations. The spoken words are supported by numerous line sketches, videos, and radiographic examples to drive home the principles. There will be a work book exercise before and after a talk on an implant.

  • Clarify in simple terms process of fracture healing and importance of mechanical environment of a fracture.
  • Explain the language used in fracture fixation.
  • Enumerate devices for fracture fixation; their description, principles of function, methodology and best practices for their use – screw / plate / nail / wires & cables / external fixations / spinal fixation.
