Course Objectives & Highlights BOS Orthopedic Oncology course is a unique platform familiarizing an orthopedic surgeon to basic and advanced concepts, treatment paradigms in the management of bone and soft tissue tumors in children and adults. Over the course of a week, a delegate expects intensive exposure to the art of performing biopsies, diagnosing and staging tumors, arriving at a plan using multi-disciplinary joint clinics and finally executing their treatment in both maximally and minimally invasive ways. The centre does over 15 to 18 major operative procedures, including curettages of benign tumors, resection of large bone and soft tissue tumors and reconstruction with mega-prosthesis and plastic reconstructive procedures per week. We also conduct 3 dedicated biopsy sessions for 25 to 30 new patients per week. Witnessing CT guided biopsies, radio frequency ablations and angio-embolizations for tumors is an added bonus. Didactic lectures and visits to the tissue bank, the radiation/medical oncology units and nuclear medicine unit completes the experience. It promises to be more than what one expects. To the best of our knowledge, it is the only course of its kind in the whole country and as members of BOS, we are proud to be part of it.
