First of all, let me extend my heartfelt gratitude to all of you for electing me as the President of our esteemed society for 2020-21. This year is an extremely crucial year because of our National Conference at Mumbai and now due to the new global epidemic of COVID-19.
As you know, Bombay Orthopaedic Society is the most coveted and respected organization for the Orthopaedic fraternity all over our country. Everyone looks forward to our courses, meetings and the way we handle it in a professional way. Hence this tradition continues even during difficult situations this year.
We have a packed schedule studded with Clinical Meetings, Master Series as usual. We have plans to reach not only Mumbai City, but the Mumbai Metropolitan Region as well by conducting outreach programmes at Navi Mumbai-Panvel, Mira Bhayandar, Kalyan-Dombivali and may be in Thane-Kalwa.
We shall have 18 courses including JCT PG Teaching this year covering almost 70% of the contents covering traditional teaching and 30% being innovative aspects to make it interesting. There is inclusion of Advanced Courses in trauma, arthroplasty, paediatrics, spine and arthroscopy focused on some aspects this year. We have requested our Conveners to introduce simulation-based learning techniques in the courses, if possible. Hence, I request you to participate in large numbers in order to gain the maximum from these courses.
This year the Presidential theme is "Plan your work, Work your plan". Be it in your day to day activities, be it your surgery, be it your dealing with patients and what not. As we know, failure may be 1% for our series of patients, but it is 100% for that particular patient. Hence, proper planning and execution of the plan in a right way is the path to success. This will reflect in all our courses and meetings this year.
All of us are waiting for our mega event - IOACON 2020. We shall have all our eponymous sessions of WIROC during IOACON. We all are geared for it and I urge you to register early in large numbers to join in this mammoth event in our mega city to make it successful.
We need to take our Journal of Clinical Orthopaedics to the pinnacle of peer-reviewed literature and try to make it a PubMed indexed journal, though it is a long-drawn process. Our Members' Directory is about five years old now and we need to update with all the new members addresses. We have already established a working group towards this refinement process. We are planning to make the correction process online soon with our webmasters.
It is the need of the time we address the grievances of all our members for the smooth running of the society. I plan to form a ‘Grievance Redressal Committee’ taking the help of our honourable Past Presidents, who are actively involved in our society matters.
Friends, we hope to have a smooth sailing through the rough weather coming on our way. I need your valuable support for this. Together we can!
I shall be in touch with you personally through emails from time to time. Please don’t hesitate to contact me in my email id - firstname.lastname@example.org at any time possible.
Long Live BOS!
Dr. Shubhranshu S. Mohanty
President, Bombay Orthopaedic Society
